Can't Fill the Last Spot? Start a Last-Minute Fantasy Football League

Your fantasy football league has 9 committed people and an open spot. The season is getting close, the group chat has run out of names, and the last person you expected to join has backed out. You can keep searching, but you do not need a tenth manager just to make the league work.
Season DFS supports fantasy football leagues with an odd number of members. Bring the 9 people who want to play, create the league, and start with 9. There is no placeholder team to manage and nobody has to sit out for the season.
No draft means less lead time
A traditional fantasy league needs every manager in place before the draft. The commissioner has to find a date, get everyone online at the same time, and decide what to do if someone drops out after rosters have already been selected.
Season DFS does not use a draft or permanent rosters. Every manager builds a new salary-cap lineup from the full player pool each week. There are no draft slots to redo, drafted teams to transfer, or waiver rules to prepare before the group can begin.
That makes a last-minute league practical. Set the rules, invite the people you have, and let everyone build a lineup for the first scoring week. Your league size does not have to match the number you originally planned.
How head-to-head works with 9 teams
In a 9-team head-to-head league, 8 teams play in 4 direct matchups each week. The remaining team plays against the average score of the other 8 members. Beat that average and the team earns a win. Fall below it and the team receives a loss.
The league-average matchup rotates through the schedule, so the same team is not left without a direct opponent every week. Its own score is excluded from the average it must beat.

You can still use divisions
An odd member count does not limit the league to a single standings table. Head-to-head leagues can use optional divisions, and those divisions do not need the same number of teams. Nine members could be split into groups of 5 and 4.
Season DFS builds the requested division games into the schedule, uses cross-division matchups for the remaining direct games, and includes the rotating league-average matchup required by the odd total. Division winners qualify for the playoffs, with the remaining places filled by wildcards from the overall standings.
Run the league with the people who said yes
The ideal league size is the number of people who will participate. If your group has 7, 9, or 11 committed managers, that is enough to run a real season with weekly lineups, live scoring, standings, and playoffs. You can stop recruiting for symmetry and start organizing the league you actually have.
